Obviously China is in the spotlight because it can’t get away with holding such an important international event without public scrutiny. The Chinese government, in order to win the Olympic bid made promises to its people, to the international community and chinese and foreign media that it would improve the human rights and media censorship situation, in fact there has been serious deterioration in human rights and media freedom. The international community has every right to call on the Chinese government to fulfil its promises.

Actually this is the reality, there a number of REAL pictures of people being executed with a bullet to back of the head in China. Quite often it happens immediately after trial.

If you’re talking about foreigners barging in to the home of the Chinese and telling them how to live – well Tibet and Eastern Turkistan are the perfect exapmles of China doing exactly that. At least the world is telling China to clean up its act, not repressing its culture, language and religion as China has done in Tibet.

China is an amazing country, with an incredible culture, though most average Chinese aren’t free to speak their minds, or to raise concerns with or even question their government. It’s a sad situation where people are being killed or imprisoned for ‘state subversion’ or even sending an email as activist SHI TAO – who sent an email to foreign media and yahoo gave his ISP to the Chinese government and now hes in prision for 10 years….

It’s clearly a fabrication, so this does more to undermine AI’s believability than China’s reputation. Like everything in the world… it’s blown out of proportion by and for the media and prejudice people to strike fear into everyone. This is happening in china, but why is china in the “spotlight” and not everything going on in the Haiti, Burma, Israel AND the US to name a few? The Olympics? The once worshipped greek gathering where everyone from all corners, nationalities and colors of the earth, come together to PLAY COMPETITIVE GAMES? The ENTIRE world is at it’s downfall if you ask me. If it takes something that only happens every 4 years to finally notice something that is and HAS been going on in VARIOUS places throughout the globe since the beginning of human civilization… simply put, we’re FUCKED. I agree with the “you can’t barge into a man’s home and tell him how to govern it” comment, but when human rights and life are the end to this absurd equation, something needs to happen, ANY life for that matter.
