I've got another tip, don't get married until you're ready to get married. When I was single, I was depressed that all my friends were getting married and/or having babies. Now five years later, my husband and I are still going strong and many of my college friends are already divorced!

Well, in L.A., or even most of California, that's not exactly a lot of money to be living on.

You had me interested until #5.

Stick with a job you hate for two years? Seriously? I haven't stayed at some jobs I liked for that long.

I spent two years getting a diploma and, for me, this meant the first time in my life when I could afford to be particular about where I worked. I tried a few places (including one where I handed in my notice on the second day) until I found somewhere I really liked. Two and a half years later and I still work for the same company.

Leaving those jobs didn't hinder me at all. I just left them off my CV, sold myself as newly qualified and got offered nearly every position I applied for.

Now I love my job and I work with great people. Had I stuck with my terrible first job then I most likely would have missed out on that.

i guess i depends on your degree. my little brother is a fashion designer making $220,000+ a year just 6 months out of college, so not a lot of this applies, though i try to tell him it does. i got an electrical engineering degree with a minor in theoretical mathematics and i only make $75,000 a year in L.A., which means i am almost poor. so it depends.

this is the dumbest list I have ever seen. When you stop going to college you should be somewhere in your life that you dont HAVE to live like a college student any longer(duh). Also, I believe you should be prepared to leave your job at a moments notice and unless they are "commited" to you somehow why should you be commited to them? Business owners use young people and tell them things like these to get them to work weekends/school hours/holidays. What iff you spend a dollar or two on lunch each day? or what if you spending 5$ on lunch gets you 2 lunches? sandwiches arent free last time I checked...or incredibly appealing. If you deprive yourself your bound to splurge worse later. dumblist, maybe the author should have gone to college him/herself.

All very good advice, and I'd like to add a career-based suggestion. If presented with the opportunity, join an extracurricular activity at your company, like being on the company softball team, or an intracurricular activity, such as being on the Christmas party committee. You are likely to have interaction with all levels of management, up to and including the corner office, who will not only see you in a different light than does your direct supervisor but also will get to know you and remember your name. Both can payoff in the future.
